ATS Deepavali Show - November 2008

Austin Tamil Sangam organized a Deepavali show consisting of multiple cultural events.

  • Fashion Shows
Agni was invited to entertain and capture the audience by ATS.
Audience were 200 strong and considered it the main event of the night.

UT Austin - Jhalak 2008 (Fall)

Jhalak is the fall Indian Cultural festival conducted by the Indian Cultural Association of The University of Texas at Austin. The entertainment of the evening included Indian music and dances – both traditional and contemporary as well as informative video clips. In accordance to the theme, fusion items were showcased by bringing together both western and Indian art forms. The goal of the evening was to portray the rich history and heritage of India along with current developments through both performances and clips. ICA attracted crowds from all over Texas!

Agni showcased the different styles during their slot  on stage. Mukkala Mukkabla song was the biggest hit and the crowd loved the inventive glow-in-the-dark skeletons during the song.

AHT Mela 2008

Agni performed at the Austin Hindu Temple Mela celebrating Dasara/Diwali 2008. 

Mela happens once a year at the Austin Hindu Temple. Attractions being food stalls, dance, music and other cultural performances. The day ends with burning down the figure of Ravana, mythological king of Lanka.

Agni's lineup consisted of four diverse music and dance styles.
Taal - Classical Fusion - fast paced
Suprabhatham - Classical Fusion - all female elegant dance
Parthay Hey Partha - Bollywood (Hindi)
Mukkala Mukkabula - Kollywood (Tamil)

Pecan Street Festival 2008

Agni performed on the International Stage at the intersection of 7th street and Red River.
Couple of hundred onlookers were enthralled by the show and cheered on the performers.

Agni to perform at The Pecan Street Festival

Agni's performing group will showcase their choreography and creative expression at one of Austin's largest festivals.

The Pecan Street Festival is a free, bi-annual juried art festival held on 6th Street in Austin, Texas. The festival has been an Austin tradition for more than 30 years. Local musicians provide entertainment on five stages. The festival is the largest art festival in Central Texas, attracting over 300,000 people per event and generating $43 million in economic impact. The show is also the primary fundraiser for the Old Pecan Street Association, an organization established to preserve and beautify 6th Street.

Agni will be performing on the International Stage at 8.30 pm Saturday September 20th 2008. It is located at 7th and Red River, Downtown, Austin, TX. Expect an intense medley of multiple dance forms.

Indian Independence Day Show

Agni was invited to perform at the Indian Independence Day Show. It was presented by ICC (India Community Center www.iccaustin.org) of Austin, TX in celebration of the 62nd Indian Independence. Music and Dance Artists from various Indian cultures and styles performed at the show.

Agni performed a 10 minute sequence of 5 different song/dance styles.

The first song was "Partha Hey Partha". Dance styles used were Bollywood and Indian fusion. Performers were Prakash, Aparna, Nate, Vaishnavi and Srini.


Next up was a fast-paced instrumental "Beat of Passion" from the album "Taal". Dance styles used were Indian Classical and Folk. Performers were Nate, Prakash, Srini, Soumya, Vanitha, Pavithra and Subha.


"Yeh Ishq" was next in the sequence. Dance styles used were Bollywood and Arabic. Performers were Aparna, Rujuta, Vaishnavi and Swetha.


Up next was a hip-hop dance number put together by Prakash and Nate. Subha is in the background.


The last piece in the sequence is Agni's signature "Dol Dol" from the movie "Yuva". Dance style used is Bollywood. Performers are Nate, Prakash, Rujuta, Vaishnavi, Aparna, Soumya, Swetha, and Srini.


During this finale song, performers got interactive with the crowd cheering them up. The feedback from the crowd was fantastic. Overall, it was great show on a historic day.
